Snow Ghosted Trees, Vail, Colorado © Jay Goodrich
The photo this month was taken last winter during the height of one of the best ski seasons ever. It was snowing so often that the fir trees had little or no time for their needles to free themselves of snow before the next storm cycle rolled in. This shot was taken in the Vail backcountry as my wife and I finished hiking and were preparing to ski. The trees stood out as disciples looking over us as we prepared to drop into yet another powder run for 2008. The image was made with a Canon 5D, 17-35mm f2.8 lens, handheld. The beauty of photography in this digital age is that I can adjust my ISO high enough to allow me to hand hold a shot like this. If I were still shooting film, a tripod would have been necessary. The image was mastered in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have chosen this image in hopes to coax the snow gods to give us a repeat winter.
