Peaks near Copper Mountain, Colorado © Jay Goodrich
I was on my way home from the airport in Denver as the sun was setting in an area of the I-70 corridor that I have always wanted to photograph. It is an area right before Copper Mountain Ski Area if you are traveling west bound. This mountainous location looks very much like it belongs in Europe and for that reason I am attracted to it. There was some weather on the surrounding peaks at the time and for a brief minute the sun poked through to illuminate the spires. I immediately pulled my truck over and handheld my camera resting my elbows on the hood. The lines of snow through the rocks have been on my list of backcountry ski descents for almost two decades. One season when the snow was the deepest I have seen since living here, I dropped a run in the very vicinity. The image was shot with a Canon 1D Mark III, 70-200mm f2.8 IS AF lens and mastered in Lightroom and Photoshop.
