I grew up in the hills of North Central Alabama and now live in the Kansas flatlands. No geography could be farther from the magnetic attraction I feel for the mountains of the Western US. Traveling across the Rockies 40 years ago kindled an ember of interest that turned into a fire warming my soul 10 years later when I went to a 1972 mountain flying course in Colorado Springs.

Aviation provides a magic carpet to return to the mountains with a front seat view from 8,000 down in amongst them to 41,000 feet as their grandeur rises above the horizon 100+ miles in front of the aircraft.

Traveling west from Kansas to Colorado years ago, I noticed what I thought were clouds on the horizon. I knew the ceilings and visibilities were forecast to the clear, so what was the reason for the clouds ahead? It wasn’t clouds but the snow capped Rockies rising above the horizon 75 miles in front of the little Cessna. I now look forward to this experience every time we fly toward the mountains. Sara comments that a peace and calm come over me when I first see the mountains in this manner.

The Aspens turning in the fall in the late afternoon light shimmer for miles and miles from the Sangre de Christos north to Canada are a sight to behold. Flying along the Wind River Range coming to Jackson Hole is another inspiring vista. This is a never-ending quest that keeps me coming back for more.

Now, I attempt to photograph these scenes to help me show the beauty and allure to others that mountains bring to me.

Thank you Antoine. That may be because of your internet connection speed or if you are not using a new retina display iPad. The processor on the older generation iPads seems to have a bit of difficulty processing the slide show at the beginning. I am contemplating making a change there by just loading a single image, but that is the only location that I have discovered a slow/spotty load.

Hi Jay,
I've just browsed your website and got to know a little more of you by following the link in Corwin Hiebert's ebook. First, I appreciate both your imagery and how you built your brand, and your (new) website has certainly contributed to it, although I don't know how the previous one was. But for some reason, I can't get your website entirely displayed with my iPad. It even seems to freeze the device sometimes. Just thought I'd let you know about that issue (which might be a concern only for me), so that you could check it out.
Keep on the good work, I do enjoy reading your blog and advises, as I'm on my way to this new craft.

Cheers.

Jay is the quintessential active spirit that gets knocked down trying and doing what he does. The difference between Jay and many others is that he does not stay down. He gets up and goes again until he achieves his dreams.

These are just some of the reasons to follow and try to emulate Jay's unconquerable spirit.
